  • Peter: Got that gun?
  • Tobias: No. I figured I would shoot the bullets out of my nostrils, so I left it upstairs.
  • Peter: Oh shut up.

Transforming World

As far as I can see, Pisay CVC is transforming differently to the place that I used to know.

  • Pisay is running out of students I am friends with. Most of my Pisay friends are from Lykos, Nexus, NaVi and PuSo (Batches 10, 11, 12 and 13 respectively) but these batches already graduated from Pisay. Right now, there are only few students I know of who are still studying at Pisay and soon, like us, they’ll leave Pisay, my home for four straight years. Two years from now, unfamiliar scholars will occupy the entire Pisay community; which means, aside from the faculty members, there’ll be no one to visit in Pisay.
  • A lot has changed in Pisay, including the place itself. Few parts of the Pisay heritage were already gone. I remember when I was in my second year, everyone in Pisay knows Tita Oni, Mitch, Edlyns, Engies, Riverside, Bangan Hill, Bangan River and NVSU Hymn. But I believe present Pisayers don’t even have an idea about those stuffs.
  • Recently, I found out that Sir Ion, our Physics 3 teacher and adviser, resigned from Pisay. I was really flabbergasted when he told me his plans (I really thought he can’t leave his work in Pisay).Trust me, he’s one of the cool-but-mean teachers in Pisay. He knows how to teach Physics well and to mentally torture students during exams. Like Sir Ion, some of my Pisay teachers (Sir Edison, Sir Roldan, Sir RC, Ma’am Violy, Sir Yaweh, Ma’am Romina) already left the school for good. Soon, my former teachers will be replaced by new ones. And that will change everything in Pisay.

In other words, Pisay is becoming a place which I would less likely visit. #IHateChanges

GOALS

Goals? Nah. More like New School Year’s Resolution

THIS SEMESTER I WILL:

  • Get a grade of 1.75 or better in all my subjects. (I know it’s crazy but I really wanna graduate with honors)
  • Go home early. (Oh this is hard)
  • Eat on time and thrice a day. (Not eating is unhealthy and it will only make me fat)
  • Review two weeks before exam.
  • Review lessons before attending classes.
  • Stop procrastinating.
  • Sleep at 10 pm. (Except during hell weeks)
  • Wake up early.
  • Jog every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. (Except during menstruation period and hell weeks)
  • Spend money wisely.
  • Avoid eating at fastfood chains.
  • Organize my acad materials.
  • Spend at most three hours on the internet on weekdays
  • Read one (fiction) book per week. (I’m just hoping that this will enhance my grasp of the English language and my English-speaking skills)

Lord, help me please!

New Cousin

Tita Rach, my Tito Jo’s wife, is pregnant for almost 9 weeks. Right now, they both live in Canada. When they were still in the Philippines, Tita Rach got pregnant twice; unfortunately the two babies didn’t make it. The doctor said her pregnancy is too delicate which means small movements could lead to miscarriage. They are married for several years already but they still don’t have a child. I’m really hoping that this time, her pregnancy will be successful.

Please pray for the success of my Tita’s pregnancy. They deserve a child.

Annoyed

I hear the same question everyday. People, I am not really affected and I swear to God I’m fine. Stop asking that question. Oh please, you’re getting into my nerves. #NosyNotConcernedPeople

UP Life: Chapter One

One year is just a short time for learning; but in University of the Philippines (UP) one year seems like an eon. You can learn every day in every way. New ideas, exceptional viewpoints and bizarre beliefs are almost found in every corner inside the university. You can also share your erudition with anybody, even the sampaguita vendor, inside the campus. One step inside the campus grounds and you’ll realize that UP is truly a paradise for learning.

Let me share some things I’ve learned in my first year here in UP:

  • Grades are just numbers but remember that numbers are important. Quantifying things is important in our lives and we know that almost everything is quantifiable: age, height, weight, waistline, money, time, friends, cars, and so on. Yes, grades are just numbers. But that doesn’t mean that getting a whole heap of singkos (5.00) in your transcript is fine. Get grades as high as you can. Goods grades will get you great jobs.
  • Surviving college isn’t all about pure intelligence; it sometimes needs luck. In order to graduate on time and get enough loads per semester, you need luck. Your looks, intellect and wealth are just nothing during online enlistment and enrollment. Additionally, UP is an asylum of the most terror professors in the country. Some professors, who have really high standards, are devoted in giving singkos (5.00) to almost everyone in the class. I do believe that even the most intelligent student in the university will never get a grade uno (1.00) from the most terror professor in UP. You’re lucky enough if you never dealt with such professors.
  • Be ready for untimely debates. I remember one hellweek, while my blocmates and I are having dinner, an issue (about writing on bills) was suddenly brought up and we debated over it (even though we all have the same stand). And I must say, debating is a good exercise for the mind. Be updated on current issues so you could catch up with what’s happening in the world. Know your classroom lessons as well and discuss those with your friends during reviews. It would definitely get you prepared for the exams.
  • If you think you’re a genius, get your ass out of the university. Always remember that, in the university, there are hundreds (or even thousands) of people a lot smarter than you. UP is not a place for showcasing how genius you are; it is a place where you can nourish your knowledge-hungry mind. Study hard instead of condescending about how clever you are. On the other hand, if you think you’re stupid, don’t worry about it. Once you graduate in UP, the brilliant monster in you will then be unleashed.
  • Stupid-looking dudes are the smart ones. Don’t underestimate your seatmate with ragged clothes. Remember: looks can be deceiving. Smart folks usually review their lessons instead of giving a damn about how they look.
  • Stop being oppressive against LGBTs. Accept the fact that lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (or LGBT) exist. In UP, there are lots of them. Even the most handsome guy in the campus could be a member of LGBT. But don’t discriminate them. (Honestly, I hated LGBTs back in high school. Moreover, I hated them for no reason.) UP taught me that LGBTs are just normal people who want to be accepted and respected in every way. They are no different from a straight male or female. They breathe, love, cry and laugh. Like us, they can build a family on their own. And trust me, they are completely harmless and they can be the most awesome people you can have as friends.
  • Rallies are remarkable, not barbaric. I used to hate rallies in the country. Aside from noise, they also create heavy traffic along the streets. But then again, UP made me realize how important rallies are. Through rallies, we, citizens, can fight for our freedom, show the government how powerful we can be, voice our opinions out and suppress the selfish desires of the authorities.
  • And lastly, never fit yourself into the social paradigm. UP students are known in creating their own paths, literally. They make shortcuts and pathways along and across the grass. They less often walk along the cemented roads where they are supposed to walk. Likewise, people should not listen to what our society dictates. Society tells us to do this-and-that’s; but whatever we do, they will not stop judging us. So, be proud to be unique.

I perceive UP as a place where your beliefs can be altered and a place where all acts of insanity are normal. UP may not be the best university in the country (because, sadly, most of the corrupt government officials graduated in UP), but I am definitely sure that UP will give its students a one-of-a-kind painful learning experience and a true “iskolar ng bayan para sa bayan” will use that experience to serve the country well.

Futile Summer

Maybe, among all the teenagers in the country, I had the dreariest summer this year. No summer getaways, no swimming, no money and no friends to spend summer with. Well, my brother and my cousins asked me to an outing but I declined (IRDK why). I just spent my entire summer vacation on reading books, watching TBBT/HIMYM/Korean novelas, playing my guitar, stalking and blogging. In other words, I stayed indoors for two months. Like what I said, maybe I had the lamest summer but at least I had a very peaceful time with myself.

Summer is officially over! Hello again, acad life! I’m once again ready for a bloody battle with my subjects. :)
